Spring is one of my favorite times of year - the trees and flowers are blooming, the humidity is low, and it stays lighter longer. Spring feels like a breath of fresh air to me!

Spring is a time when some people love to open their windows, air out the house, and do some spring cleaning! It’s a great time to spring clean other areas of your life as well.

Here are three activities you can do to help you sweep away the dust and create a plan to move forward with more clarity and purpose.

1. Let Go of Clutter in your mind and schedule

What do you worry about? What keeps you up at night?

Are there things you are doing just to do them? Things you do to avoid doing more important things? Are there things you do that you’ve always done and you don’t even know why you do them anymore?

Purposeful Action: Take a sheet of paper and fold it in half long ways. On one side of the fold, write down the items that are cluttering your mind or your schedule. On the other side of the fold, write down what can you clear up so you have more room in your mind or your day. For example, what can you let go of (worry, unimportant activities, etc)? Then take the steps you need to take to let go of the clutter. “Donate” unimportant activities or tasks to someone else. And trash those thoughts and feelings that don’t serve you anymore.

2. Exchange Energy Zappers for Energy Revivers

What are you tolerating in your life that really just zaps your energy and leave you depleted for anything else? Is there a relationship, a commitment, or activity that just doesn’t serve you anymore? Consider letting those go and instead spend time with someone who fills you up, or do an activity that renews your energy.

Purposeful Action: Ask a friend who fills you up to go on a walk with you. Spend time asking each other questions that create deep connection.

3. Add a new Daily Habit that revives your joy

When was the last time you laughed so hard your sides hurt? When did you do something that just left you smiling for the rest of the day? If you aren’t intentional about it, life can be a bit of a drudgery. And if you’ve never stopped to think about what brings you the most happiness, you are likely doing the things that you’ve always done, whether they bring you joy or not. Sure, the “drudgery” of life still needs to get done, but what can you do that balances that drudgery with joy?

Purposeful Action: Make a list of the things you love doing. Is it reading? Painting? Walking? Being with friends? Think of all the things that bring you happiness and find a way to fold one or two of those things into your newly uncluttered life.

Spring is a great time to clean out the cobwebs and get everything in order…in your house, in your mind, and in your life.

Which of the above ideas helped you the most? Did you think of anything else? Let me know!
